On 6 October 2004 a fire broke out at the 100-acre Trago Mills shopping centre in Newton Abbot, Devon. Fortunately there were no casualties but nearby schools were closed as a precaution and traffic was diverted while around 100 firefighters tackled the blaze.

Investigation into the incident concluded that the fire had been caused by an electrical fault.

The blaze was contained because correctly fitted fire doors were closed. Business was able to resume just 12 weeks after the fire.
